They were then served a sumptuous eight-course Chinese dinner at NUSS Kent Ridge Guild House and watched a lively musical band performance by ICPAS member, Mr Paul Low and his friends. | New Subsidy Scheme for Tax Agents Last Update - 20/10/2008
| Tax agents play an important role in facilitating tax compliance and providing valuable inputs for policy formulation. To play the role well, tax agents need to be firmly grounded in tax principles essential for compliance work and advisory work.
To encourage all tax agents to continually upgrade their technical competency so that they can continue to provide quality tax service for their clients, the Tax Academy of Singapore has rolled out a subsidy scheme for tax agents who attend structured tax trainings at the Academy from 1 Jan 2009.
Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore will subsidise 50% of the course fees for the Basic and Intermediate Tax courses offered by the Tax Academy. The subsidy scheme by IRAS is offered to tax agents from tax agent firms with 50 staff or less in the tax departments. In-house tax professionals will not qualify for the subsidy. Visit www.taxacademy.sg for details on the scheme.
For ICPAS members, ICPAS will subsidise 15% of the course fees. This means that tax agents from firms with 50 staff or less in their tax departments and who are ICPAS members will enjoy a subsidy of 65% of the course fees.
"The Institute is pleased to support the Tax Agent Education Framework initiated by the Tax Academy of Singapore to empower tax agents with the knowledge and tools to deliver greater value to their clients. ICPAS believes that a robust tax community hinges on the competence, quality and effectiveness of tax agents. It is therefore in the interest of every agent to be armed with the current and best practices especially in this increasingly complex world,” said Mr Tan Boen Eng, ICPAS President.
